The 4th Branch, as in: Of Government.
“You want free speech? Let’s see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, who’s standing center stage and advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would oppose at the top of yours”
– The American President by Aaron Sorkin
Bloomberg said that the media is the fourth branch of government and this is more true now than ever in our history. Our show was born out of our experience together encountering coordinated media censorship at the highest level while we were working on a project.
It was our initial intent to bring a platform to the censored, since the reverse seemed impossible. While this is still our goal, the mission has broadened in its scope to include accessibility. What makes this time in our history so truly criminal is the prevention of information from making it to the people who need it in order to make critical decisions about their health and their lives. This applies to all topics, though of course prevalent now is science and medicine. Without informed it’s not consent. The purpose is a free flow of information. To bring ALL sides – no matter how contradictory or conflicting, and whether we support or abhor – to debate in the public square and the market of free ideas.
We are fond of saying “trust the experts” when in fact half the experts are censored and dismissed in favor of a NARRATIVE which is distinctly the opposite of science. Experts are now required to fight the media to do their jobs as experts. It is a sad state when an expert’s analysis carries less weight than CNN.
News media has gone from true journalism – which was its distinct and descriptive purpose – to being asleep, to being a sock puppet for their corporate parents and advertisers. They have finally landed at being controlled hand in glove by the corporate government, turning them a corrupt arm of fascism complicit in the destruction of democracy and the 1st amendment.
We believe that robust and rigorous debate of opposing viewpoints is the only remedy. The antidote to an argument you don’t like is a better argument, not censorship. We will have people on this show with whom we – and many – disagree. Whether or not we endorse a viewpoint or idea, it is not up to us to decide who gets to express it. It is not up to us to decide who is disallowed. It is up to people to decide for themselves, after hearing the uncensored first hand accounts, data, views, and values of individuals, where the truth lies. We have the right to make decisions for ourselves which are not based on coercion, inducement, nor coordinated media attacks, censorship and manipulation of optics. Power has just that… the power. That doesn’t mean it has the truth.
Tucker Carlson recently said of Tony: “You (Tony Lyons) are the last radical publisher left in the United States. It was once such a celebrated role. Now it’s reviled. But history will vindicate your commitment to free speech.”
