Yesterday morning when I logged into my Twitter account, I saw this X where the Twitter bird used to be. I thought that there might have been something wrong with my account. Then I noticed as I logged off of Twitter, the desktop icon had also changed from the Twitter blue bird to an X.
Turns out overnight, Elon Musk has rebranded Twitter into X! WOW, has he lost his mind, or does he know exactly what he is doing? Well, if you have not heard, the Twitter blue bird is no more and has been replaced by X. What does all this mean?
The History of X
For Elon, this is not new at all. He seems to have an obsession with the letter X. This started back in 1999, and he has even named one of his children X. Elon has planned to rebrand Twitter as X for a while, an idea that goes back to his early days with PayPal.
Twitter’s new logo X recollects Elon’s earlier tech entrepreneur days when he was a 28-year-old in Silicon Valley with ambitions to start an online banking company in 1999. By that point, Elon launched and sold Zip2, a company that provided city travel guide software to newspapers, for about $341 million. Elon earned $22 million from that sale.
With the money that Elon made, his next venture focused on banking services. The idea was to create an online tool for mutual fund management. What would this online service be called?
According to Julie Anderson Ankenbrandt, a former PayPal executive, the name was born in a classic Silicon Valley café. “At that point, early 1999, the intent was still to build a revolutionary full-service financial platform, credit card, mutual fund, and standard banking data all in one place.” Here is where the domain name X.com was born.
The former PayPal executive noted the company founders felt branding would be an issue because of the “pornographic associations of the letter X.” However, it never really came down to that in the end, because the direction of the company had changed.
The domain X.com launched in late 1999. In 2000, the company merged with its competitor Confinity, which was co-founded by Peter Thiel and Max Levchin. The name never stuck, disagreements within the company, including around the X.com name, would soon be followed by Elon’s firing in late 2000. Almost everyone in the company preferred the name PayPal. In 2001 X.com was rebranded accordingly.
Elon soon moved on to other ventures, including founding SpaceX and investing in Tesla. Nevertheless, after more than two decades, Elon never let go of that name.
All The Twitter Birds Must Go, Replaced with X
Elon announced plans last Saturday to ditch the Twitter blue bird logo for an X, a reference to his vision to create an all-encompassing “Everything App”, that may incorporate messages, photos, videos, gaming, rideshare, food delivery, shopping, and banking services. All-inclusive in one Everything App.
The domain X.com now redirects users to Twitter. Elon said a new “interim” X logo went live on Sunday. Elon said in a live forum that he envisions a service that “does everything, sort of like Twitter, plus PayPal, plus a whole bunch of things, and all rolled into one, with a great interface.”
Many people are confused by Elon’s rebranding of Twitter to X and are concerned about the change. Marketing experts slam Elon’s chaotic Twitter rebranding as “completely irrational”. Branding experts are warning the company risks losing value.
Experts have been calling out the decision, warning the billionaire risks wiping off billions in brand value. The loss of the Twitter brand is projected to knock off anywhere between $4 billion and $20 billion in company value, Bloomberg reported, citing analysts and brand agencies.
Many Twitter users have also responded badly to the rebranding, taking issue with the name and logo. Several have been poking fun at the billionaire via his own platform, while others said they plan to leave altogether.
Elon Discussed His Plans to Create X App
Elon has previously said the new platform would be an “Everything App”, similar to China’s WeChat; just after he acquired Twitter in October 2022. He mentioned his plans for his newly acquired platform would be involved in the creation of an “Everything App”.
Elon’s new CEO, Linda Yaccarino, from the World Economic Forum (WEF), tweeted: “X is the future of unlimited interactivity, audio, video, messaging, payments/banking, global marketplace for ideas, goods, services, and opportunities powered by AI.”
By rebranding the Twitter app, Elon has single-handedly wiped out over fifteen years of a brand name that has secured its place in our culture. This is an extremely risky move because, with X, Elon is essentially starting all over with an entirely new brand.
Elon’s management of Twitter has been marked by erratic and fast-paced changes. He announced his plans to rebrand on Saturday and two days later, the website and app had a new logo, meeting rooms were renamed at Twitter headquarters, and Elon informed users a “tweet” was now called an “X.”
Twitter staff are helping to remove blue bird logos at its HQ for the X rebrand. As Twitter rebrands to X, staff are taking down the iconic blue bird logos at its San Francisco headquarters building.
All the same, even removing signs has hit a bump in the road. As San Francisco police put a temporary halt to the dismantling of Twitter HQ’s exterior sign, due to concern over the boom lift causing “a possible unpermitted street closure.”
Elon Is Humanity Savior? Really?
I will never forget in October 2022, someone said to me that they hoped that Elon would be humanity’s savior. I could not believe my ears. This coming from someone who was awake to all that has been going on the past few years. He actually almost lost his job after 20 years because he refused to get the Covid jab. How could anybody think that Elon was humanity’s savior?
Just look at Elon’s track record with putting up 5G towers everywhere and his Neuralink brain implant company. Which recently got FDA approval to experiment on humans. Even after all the reports of animal cruelty and abuse. How can anyone think Elon is a “white hat”? Actions will always speak much louder than words. His actions prove the truth of his character long ago. Now with Twitter he hired someone directly from the WEF as his CEO.
The truth of Elon’s character has always been shown through his “pretty” words. I personally cannot understand how anyone could think his words override his actions. Elon is a Globalist that is at the forefront of the Transhumanism agenda for humanity’s dystopian future.
Now the X app will be no different than China’s WeChat app which does everything by a social credit score. The social credit score for Americans is just around the corner if We the People allow it. Can you imagine with the X app your social credit score will be tied to your banking powered by XAI.
This is all up to us if we allow this to happen. We the People have all the power. Many are reading the writing on the wall and are already leaving the former Twitter app, which is now X.
